Due to its discovery at depths of more than, the Loch Kelly remained as the deepest point of the Spanish route, and was used in the Kronstadt Kronaumwerk in the 1990s as a source of commercial oceanographic data.

General public access to the LJ is limited to visitors from the Port of Glasgow, and the Dundee Port on Tidewater. It is the deeptest open water archaeological site in North Scotland and a very important centre for estimating marine recoverability. The LJ has been repatriated to its original location, which in 1995 was now protected by Article 8 of the European Convention on the Law of the Sea.
